The British Olympic Association has confirmed that Niall Treacy will represent Team GB in short track speed skating at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Treacy will compete across all three individual distances, the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m, at the Milano Ice Skating Arena in February next year.

On being selected for the Winter Olympics, Treacy said, “It is a huge honour to be selected for the Olympic Games, and with even greater goals and ambitions than in Beijing 2022, I’m incredibly proud to have the opportunity to return to the world’s biggest stage.”

“Representing Team GB is something I never take for granted, and I’m equally proud to showcase short track speed skating as a sport. I’m excited to test myself against the very best in the world, build on the progress made over this cycle, and push for performances that reflect the work and commitment of everyone involved in this journey.''

Treacy finished 27th in the Men’s 1000m when he made his Olympic debut at the 2022 Beijing Games, and he will be looking to improve on that result as the only Team GB athlete competing in next year’s Short Track Speed Skating events.

One of his greatest achievements after the 2022 games came at the 2024 European Championships when he won the silver medal in the men’s 1000m.

On Treacy’s selection for the Milano Cortina games, Team GB Chef de Mission, Eve Muirhead, said, “We are delighted to welcome Niall Treacy back to Team GB as our short track speed skater for Milano Cortina 2026.”

“After competing at Beijing 2022, Niall returns with invaluable Olympic experience and even greater strength on the ice, which we are excited to see on display in February. Representing Team GB at a second Olympic Games is a significant achievement and a real credit to Niall and the support team at British Ice Skating.”

His 2025 performances have seen him mix with the world’s best, as he finished 4th in the final of the Men’s 1000m at the European Championships in January whilst earning multiple top-ten finishes on the World Tour.

He will be hoping to continue his fine form into the New Year, as the Short Track Speed Skating schedule has been confirmed to take place between 10 and 20th February 2026.

On Treacy’s success heading into the 2026 games, British Ice Skating Performance Director, Jon Eley, said, “We are thrilled to confirm Niall as our short track speed skater for Milano Cortina 2026. For Niall to be making his second Olympic Games is a testament to his dedication, consistency and high standards demonstrated across the cycle.

“His success comes in part down to the strength of the partnership he has built with Short Track Head Coach Richard Shoebridge – they are each a credit to the programme. We look forward to seeing Niall compete on the world's biggest stage and continue chasing his Olympic goals.''

Treacy will be hoping to make history at the 2026 games, which will take place between Friday 6th February and Sunday 22nd February, as only the second ever Team GB athlete to medal in this sport since Nicky Gooch in 1994.
