Scott Lincoln finished fourth in the men’s shot put event at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland last weekend as he threw a season’s best of 21.13 m.

He ended the final, which took place in the morning session of 22nd March, 0.36m off a medal as he secured his own indoor personal best result.

On his performance at the championships, 32-year-old Lincoln said, "I'm still not thrilled at the moment. This time last year, this time three years ago, I would have been over the moon being fourth in the world, but I’m just a bit disappointed.”

“I just feel like it was there for the taking, and I was really within a shout of a medal all the way through until the last round, and then to just miss out, I found it frustrating, and I found it gutting, but there’s also lots of positives to take from it.”

At all four of his competitions so far in 2026 Lincoln has improved on his season’s best, which stood at 21.12 ahead of the championships in Kujawy Pomorze.

His first competition of the year saw him throw 20.76m in Australia before he threw 20.80m to claim the men’s shot put title at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships.

On his progression throughout 2026 so far, Northallerton-born Lincoln said, "It's probably a good reflection of where training is at if I’m honest. I thought I would be coming away with a lot more distance-wise and going back to Australia with a lot more distance-wise, but unfortunately that’s how professional sport goes.”

"It's always nice to see an upwards progression; there’s just a lot more in the tank. The training level is extremely high right now, and I just need to keep working on what I’m doing and keep on the path I’m on just to get it to that sort of level in competitions as well, so as I say, it’s just a work in progress, really.”

Lincoln’s fourth-place finish in Poland saw him cement his name in the history books as he secured the best ever finish by a British shot put athlete at world indoor and outdoor championships.

This success came just over a month after he broke the record for the most domestic indoor titles in that event as he won his 10th British indoor men’s shot put title in Birmingham.

On his time at the top of the British field, two-time Olympian Lincoln said, "Hopefully it will inspire a few other people; I mean, it’s always difficult as it’s not as accessible as I think it should be sometimes. I know that for me I was very fortunate that I trained an hour away in York, and I was fortunate enough that my parents were able to get me there two or three times a week, so it was a big commitment from them.”

"There are a few youngsters that are keen and doing very well, so hopefully it continues, but my main aim, as selfish as it sounds, is to concentrate on me, and if I inspire a few along the way, then that’s an added bonus.”

Lincoln now has two major championships coming up in 2026, the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games in July and August.

He will be hoping to improve on his results from past editions of both of these games, as he won the bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the

On his future competitions Lincoln, who is ranked 13th in the world, said: "If you’d asked me that (about his aims and plans for 2026) five weeks ago, I would have said I want to medal at all three majors, obviously the World Indoors, the Commonwealth Games and then the Europeans, but after the weekend I obviously narrowly missed out on that one, but I want to win the Europeans and I want to win the Commonwealths."

“I don’t want to medal; I want to win. I think that I was the top European in the comp (at the World Indoors), and I was the second-placed Commonwealth athlete in the competition, so I just want to hone in on unlocking the big throw, ready to go on to the Europeans and the Commonwealth Games."

Lincoln’s next major competition is the Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow from 23rd July to 2nd August before he moves to Birmingham for the European Athletics Championships from 10th to 16th August.
