Davina Perrin’s 2025 season saw her reach the finals of the Women’s T20 Blast and the Women’s Hundred, in which her side, the Northern Superchargers, won the title for the first time in their history.

Her successful season has seen her shortlisted for the award alongside darts world number 1 Luke Littler and UEFA Women's Euro 2025 winner Michelle Agyemang.

On being shortlisted for the award, the 19-year-old said, “It’s pretty cool, isn’t it? It’s not what was on my 2025 bingo card, and not what I expected anyways, to be fair. It’s pretty special to be nominated alongside the likes of Luke and Michelle, two sportspeople I have a lot of respect for, so all in all pretty special really.”

Her standout moment in 2025 came in the Eliminator of the Women’s Hundred, in which she scored the first century of the women’s tournament after finishing on 101 runs off 43 balls.

Her century broke the record for the fastest century ever by an English woman in the format, as she reached the milestone in just 42 balls.

On her record-breaking innings, Wolverhampton-born Perrin said, “I don’t think I really glanced up at the scoreboard; well, I didn’t look at my own score. I was looking at the team’s score. It wasn’t until Georgia Redmayne said to me, ‘Have you thought about the 100 yet?’ that I turned to her and said, because I’d heard the rumours about the auction, ‘No, like, why are you asking me that now? We’re in the competition right now,’ because I thought she was asking me about next year’s competition. So I turned to her and said, ‘We’re in it,’ and she was like, ‘No, look at the scoreboard,’ and I was on 86 or something like that, so now I am.”

She also showcased her run-scoring ability in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 Blast as she helped her side, the Warwickshire Bears, reach finals day in July.

She finished second in the overall run-scoring charts in this new competition alongside a number of fellow up-and-coming female cricketers.

On the Women’s T20 Blast’s inaugural season, the PCA Women’s Young Player of the Year said, “I didn’t even know that it was the inaugural season, which I think probably speaks volumes about the standard. For that competition to have been as great as it was on the whole, I think that’s so promising and so exciting for the future and what’s to come.”

Perrin’s nomination for this award means that she could become the first cricketer to win the Young Sports Personality of the Year award, which was renamed in 2001 after two years of being called the ‘Newcomer Award’.

Winning this award would also mean that she’d join cricketers such as Ben Stokes and Andrew Flintoff, who won the main SPOTY award in 2019 and 2005, respectively, whilst creating more history in the early stages of her career.

On how she hopes to replicate her success in the future, the former England U19s player said, “For me it’s trusting the processes and not getting ahead of myself too much but still maintaining the hunger and the want to get better. There’s obviously a lot in the technical side of things and the tactical side of things, but I think a big thing will be the mental side of things and how I approach it. I think I’ve had an alright season, but I still want to do better, and I still want to go one step further.”

Her nomination is also important for the women’s game of cricket, as they are looking to build upon the legacies of the Lionesses and the Red Roses in next year’s Women's T20 World Cup, which is being hosted jointly by England and Wales.

For young female players like Perrin, the home World Cup will also give them a chance to shine a light on the women’s game for not only fans across the future but also future players and staff.

On what she hopes she can do for the women’s game, Perrin said, “I still want to take my game to the next level because I want to move cricket as a whole, and in particular the women’s game, forward, and I like to think that the better I try and the better I become, hopefully that’ll happen.”

The Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony will be broadcasted live on Thursday 18th December from 7pm on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.
