Huddersfield Town AFC (HTAFC) has completed the acquisition of full operational control over its home ground, the Accu Stadium, in a landmark transaction that clears the way for long-term investment and "transformational developments" in the town.
The club, advised by local firm Chadwick Lawrence Solicitors, has successfully acquired the shares in Kirklees Stadium Development Limited, making it the sole shareholder of the company that holds the long-term lease to the venue.
This complex transaction, which involved negotiations with former joint partners Kirklees Council and the Huddersfield Giants rugby league club, removes layers of historic complexity, guaranteeing a secure future for the club and positioning the stadium as a major entertainment and hospitality hub.
Huddersfield Town Owner and Chairman, Kevin Nagle, celebrated the move, stating: “Following extensive discussions, we are delighted to have secured full operational control of our home at the Accu Stadium, securing the long-term future of the team within the heart of the town whilst opening the door for multiple transformational developments to now take place."
Mr Nagle added that the agreement secures the club’s presence for the "next 300 years" and pledged to use the operational control to provide the local community with "increased choice and opportunity."
The deal highlights the capability of regional legal professionals. The transaction was managed by Chadwick Lawrence’s corporate and commercial property teams.
Leanne Franks, Partner at Chadwick Lawrence, commented: "This acquisition gives the Club greater control and flexibility over its future, allowing for strategic investments that will benefit supporters and the wider community for years to come.”
Cheryl Largue, Partner on the Commercial Property side, added that securing full ownership "is a significant step for the Club, and we are proud to have played a part in helping to strengthen its foundations for future growth and investment”.
In a joint statement, all three former partners—Huddersfield Town, Kirklees Council, and Huddersfield Giants—expressed satisfaction that the deal "paves the way for further investment into the stadium and a bright future for sport, entertainment and hospitality in Huddersfield".
The acquisition follows the club's recent five-year exclusive naming rights deal for the ground, which was also negotiated by Chadwick Lawrence.
