Finding Inspiration To Write With Hannah, Little Alf And Friends

Hannah and Winston
Writing has always been a big part of who I am. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved creating stories, especially those that capture the magic of animals, the countryside, and the little adventures life brings along the way. My biggest inspiration has always come from the animals around me — they each have their own quirks, personalities, and stories to tell.
When I first met Little Alf, my cheeky miniature Shetland pony, I never imagined he would become the star of my books. But he quickly trotted his way into my heart and onto the pages I’d scribble late at night. His story began as a way to share our journey together, but over time, it grew into something much bigger. Little Alf showed me that some of the best stories are the ones right in front of us — real, heartfelt, and filled with a little bit of mischief.
I find inspiration in everyday moments. A walk across the Yorkshire moors, the changing seasons, or simply watching my animals play in the fields sparks so many ideas. My flat-coated retriever, Winston, is another constant muse. His life on the moors, his working dog adventures, and his playful, loyal nature continue to give me endless stories to tell.

I often say I write what I live. My books aren’t just stories — they’re a reflection of the life I love: surrounded by animals, fresh air, muddy boots, and endless cups of Yorkshire tea. The countryside is a huge influence in my writing; it has a way of slowing things down, helping me to pause and truly see the beauty in simple things.
Writing with Little Alf and my other furry (and sometimes feathered!) friends remind me why I started in the first place — to connect, to share joy, and to hopefully inspire others to see the magic in their own everyday moments.
Whether I’m writing for children or sharing snippets of farm life, my biggest advice to anyone looking for inspiration is to look around. The best stories often come from the life you’re already living. And when you write from the heart, you’ll always have something worth sharing…
