10 in 10 Graham Edward

Graham Edward, MD, Edward Architecture based in both Leeds and London is the latest regional business professional in the hot seat as we give him just 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions...

What does a typical working day for you involve?

I’m always in the office unless I am visiting sites or clients. I’ll cycle into work if possible. Mornings are dedicated to working with the team on project designs and project actions. I find the afternoons less frantic and the best time to get a couple of hours in on a specific design task.

What makes your company special?

This is a no brainer, it’s Edward Architecture’s talented team and the team’s attitude to work and client service. Investing in my team, our office culture, career development, staff rewards and a great working environment rubs off with clients and co consultants and helps greatly with staff retention.

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

As the last question, I believe that a loyal team will deliver the best service. So the answers are delivering a great service, keep learning and understanding project risks.

Do you dress up or down for work?

At Edward Architecture we are relaxed about dress code which has helped us create a relaxed office atmosphere.

What piece of advice would you give to your 18-year old self?
Never stop believing that hard work and all those hours of studying whilst bringing up a family aren’t worth it because they are!

What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?

Rudding Park. It’s a beautiful venue and you are really well looked after. It’s the home of “The Yorkshire Children’s Charities” Property Awards and it’s also where my daughter got married.

How do you prefer to travel for business?

Train to city centres like London or Manchester. By car anywhere else. I cycle to the office when I can.

What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?

Whitby. It’s a great place to go with family and friends for a short stay. There’s loads to do and it’s incredibly charming. A summer drink on one of the terraces on the east bank of the River Esk is a great way to watch the world go by.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire and what dish do you recommend?

Fazenda in Leeds where you have a red or green card to tell the waiters whether you can still eat any more of their fantastic meat. It’s in a great location on the canal basin and their steak cuts are superb.

What do you miss about Yorkshire when you are away?

Our natural friendliness and humour.
