This winter, Yorkshire’s Swinton Estate is inviting visitors to its inaugural Luminescence - A Winter Light Trail, set amidst the beautiful lakes and woodland garden of the Swinton Park Hotel near Masham.

Launching from Thursday 6th November and running throughout the winter months to the end of February 2026, the woodland landscape and lakeside paths will transport ticket holders on an ethereal illuminated experience through an extensive light installation set to depict the magic of the natural world.

After a laser-lit welcome at the Walled Garden Gates, guests can marvel at the twinkling tableaux around the mile-long trail - all inspired by the spellbinding beauty of Mother Nature. Making the most of the stunning natural setting of the Swinton gardens with its majestic trees, follies and lakeside paths, visitors can meander up the glowing Party Parade to the Woodland Grotto and Lakeside Lights before catching a glimpse of the shining deer herd and entering another world at The Galaxy.

Felicity Cunliffe-Lister comments: “We are unveiling the Luminescence – A Winter Light Trail as an immersive experience that we hope will captivate all the family. At this truly magical time of year, the Swinton Estate is a magnificent setting to bring people together and to celebrate the beauty of nature. Luminescence is a sensory journey through light, landscape and imagination and we’re thrilled to share it with our guests from early November and into the heart of wintertime.”

For anyone looking to warm up with a taste of Yorkshire's finest fare, food and drinks - which will include hot chocolate and marshmallows – will be available halfway around the trail. Guests could make an afternoon or evening of their visit by combining the trail with one of the hotel’s impressive dining options - perhaps a delicious English afternoon tea experience or a traditional Yorkshire Sunday lunch in Samuel’s before heading out to the trail. The Terrace Bar & Restaurant will also be serving an extended selection of light meals and snacks for guests to enjoy both before and after their visit.

Welcoming more than 45,000 annual visitors, the 20,000-acre Swinton Estate is the destination to stay, play, dine and rediscover wellness on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. With over 7,000 acres of moorland and 1,700 acres of woodland, Felicity Cunliffe-Lister plays a leading role in the management and development of the Swinton Estate alongside her husband, Mark Cunliffe-Lister, the 4th Earl of Swinton. Since 2001, they have transformed Swinton Park into a luxury hotel and have spearheaded several initiatives on the estate including the Swinton Cookery School, Swinton Birds of Prey and the Swinton Country Club & Spa.

The very first night of Swinton’s new winter light trail - on Thursday 6th November - will coincide with Great British Game Week, a celebration of country living and the people, partners and knowledge that make the Swinton Estate such a special place.
