The world is currently gripped with World Cup fever, but alongside that giant of the summer, there are still scores to be settled and moments created on a weekly basis from around the sporting landscape.
From the World Cup of cricket and football to the Super League, there is tonnes to take in this midweek.
Tuesday 16th June T20 Women’s World Cup: England v Ireland 18:30
The world stage of T20 cricket continues with England coming face to face with neighbours Ireland for the second group stage fixture and looking to continue what has been a perfect start.
The opening match of Group 2 was a tricky proposition: a Sri Lanka side that had won seven on the spin and had not lost since late April.
The challenge seemed to not faze England, who maybe with a thought on the series defeat handed to them by Sri Lanka three years ago was on the mind as a dominant display was to follow.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge was the star of the show, with her century being the talking point of what was a dominant display of top-class cricket, giving the team an 87-run win and boatloads of confidence to take away from Birmingham.
After setting the bar high, it is now time to continue the good feelings as Ireland takes the trip to Southampton, hoping to stunt England’s progress.
To do so, Ireland will have to rectify what was a disappointing loss to Scotland in their opener. Losing by 40 runs has them not only in need of a confidence boost but also a points boost if they are to start to crawl up the table.
England currently sit top of the group with Ireland in fifth, but all is still up for grabs, and with everything to play for, what should prove to be a dramatic affair on the south coast?

Wednesday 17th June FIFA World Cup: England v Croatia 21:00
The World Cup is now in full swing, with an expanded lineup of countries experiencing the joys and wonder of the greatest show on earth for the very first time.
For the Three Lions, an opening fixture at the World Cup is a regular occurrence, nevertheless a opening round matchup with Croatia still brings excitement with the thoughts of feint hope of glory becoming all the more real as Tuchel’s men take the field for the first time in the USA.
The journey to the 2026 World Cup has been smooth sailing for England who breezed through qualifying with minimal issues on the pitch and zero points dropped. The only slight cracks appeared with a couple of friendly performances where in back to back games at Wembley, England drew to Uruguay and were beaten by Japan.
Now far away from the safety of the Wembley arch, it is time to make a mark in the group after two wins in the warm up matches that ended with a somewhat disappointing 1-0 win over New Zealand redeemed by a more positive 3-0 defeat of Costa Rica.
The issue of squad selection and who should have or shouldn’t have gone will always plague major tournaments, but with still a litany of options and a valiant display in the last warmup, the mood is starting to change for the better.
Tuchel will be hoping that positivity will become motivation for his side that have the task of getting past Croatia side that has been to back to back World Cup semifinals. This will undoubtedly be the Three Lions' toughest test before they hopefully reach the knockouts, with star names such as Modric, Perisic and Gvardiol wanting nothing more than to ruin England’s hopes and give themselves the best chance of emerging victorious from Group L.

Thursday 18th June Betfred Super League: Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves 20:00
A showpiece fixture in Super League awaits on Thursday night, as league leaders Leeds travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to face second-placed Warrington Wolves.
The two sides are actually level on 22 points each, but Leeds take top spot thanks to their superior points difference.
The Rhinos are currently on a three-match winning run after their match with Toulouse at the weekend ended with a convincing scoreline of 48-24 to Leeds. Despite their high scoring, there were moments when a comeback for the French side looked possible, which would have meant a drop from their perch at the top of the table.
Head coach Brad Arthur has recently signed a new two-year contract amid much speculation that his future was in question; this added security will have many Rhino fans hoping that stability can breed success.
For Warrington, they have the advantage of having played one less match than Leeds, and now they have a chance to leapfrog them with more points potentially coming as a safety net. A win against the Rhinos is no easy feat, though, but Wolves have only lost one of their last seven Super League matches.
With both sides full of confidence, this will be a match to look out for if you want high-octane rugby league action with a result that could turn out to be vital come the end of the regular season, which is fast approaching.

Friday 19th June Betfred Super League: Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity 20:00
More Super League action now and a much-anticipated Yorkshire derby as Wakefield travel from the West to the East Riding, looking to cement their place in the top six.
We featured Trinity’s game against Wigan last week, with mention of a real chance that they could pick up victory and further their push for a second consecutive year in the playoffs.
They in fact did not end up taking the win and were soundly beaten 48-10; after such a disappointment, redemption will be the needed reaction from Wakefield, who have a much better chance of making inroads from their current position of fifth as they face a Hull side currently in ninth and eight points from sixth.
Each side from third to sixth has 18 points, meaning a victory would do wonders to create safety. Trinity are keeping pace with the established Super League sides but have somewhat lacked when going toe to toe with the big boys, with the only surprise result being a victory over Hull KR.
They have, however, shown that they can mix it up with most of the league and come out on top, looking the best of the rest and able to play extremely solid and structured rugby.
Hull have been on a horrid run of form up until recently, with four consecutive losses only being broken with a 36-12 victory over bottom side the Huddersfield Giants. Prior to that victory it was just one win in seven for FC, who now need to kick on if they have any hope of making up the eight points needed to reach St Helens in sixth.
When the two sides last met, it was Wakefield who took the spoils at Belle Vue with a tight 14-10 win. With Hull now having the comfort of a home crowd, things are expected to change, but FC’s home record is the tenth best, whilst Trinity are fourth in the away form table.
