As we get older, some of the things that make Christmas time special as children start to lose a little magic. However, one thing that you’re never too old to be excited about is the festive food.

From sweet to savoury, there are plenty of tasty treats for Brits to tuck into this Christmas, but which traditional Christmas food is officially the UK’s favourite?

The team at Betway has crunched the numbers and revealed the most popular traditional Christmas foods in the UK by comparing Google search volume over the past 30 days, with classic roast potatoes coming out on top:

1. Roast Potatoes - 84,000 searches

Whether you choose to smother them with goose fat, sprinkle them with rosemary or simply drown them in gravy, the humble roast potato is bound to get any Brit excited.

A popular part of Sunday roasts year round, but definitely an extra special treat at Christmas time, the classic roast potato is officially the most popular festive food in the UK this year - with 84,000 searches in the last month.

2. Cauliflower Cheese - 70,000 searches

Coming in as the second most popular festive food is cauliflower cheese, with a staggering 70,000 Google searches for the cheesy treat in the UK in the last month.

There’s been plenty of debate over whether cauliflower is a traditional festive food, as the Peep Show 2010 Christmas special famously demonstrated. However, the UK has clearly made up its mind and cauliflower cheese is here to stay.

3. Christmas Pudding - 47,000 searches

The most traditional of festive desserts is still the most popular, with the classic Christmas pudding receiving 47,000 searches in the UK last month securing third place on the list.

Containing a mixture of dried fruits, brandy and almonds, this sweet treat is usually enjoyed by grown-ups while the kids tuck into their selection boxes.

4. Mince Pies - 46,000 searches

An absolute festive staple at number four is a classic mince pie. The name of these fruit-filled pastries often confuses people about whether they contain actual minced meat.

Some particularly festive Brits will start munching on mince pies as early as November, which could be why the tasty treat has amassed 46,000 searches in the last month.

5. Roast Turkey - 31,000 searches

Usually considered the centrepiece of the traditional Christmas dinner, the classic roast turkey ranks fifth place with 31,000 searches last month.

With roast turkey’s relatively low search volume compared to vegetarian-friendly dishes like roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese, is this an indication that more Brits than ever before are going meat-free this Christmas?

6. Brussel Sprouts - 28,000 searches

A bit of a love-it-or-hate-it festive feature, the brussel sprout often gets unfairly left behind on some people’s dinner plates.

However, it looks like brussel sprouts are enjoying a surge in popularity in the UK this Christmas, with 28,000 online searches in the month gone by.

7. Yule Log - 19,000 searches

With tubs of sweet treats and piles of selection boxes impossible to escape at Christmas, it is hard to believe that any Brits still have an appetite for more chocolatey treats.

However, the UK’s sweet tooth prevails, with the Yule Log making the cut as one of this year’s most popular festive foods. This was highlighted by a whopping 19,000 Brits searching for the log-shaped chocolate cake last month.

8. Roast Parsnips - 14,000 searches

Ranking eighth with 14,000 online searches last month is the roast parsnip, proving that Brits really do like their vegetables at Christmas.

Most people in the UK like to serve their roast parsnips smothered in honey and sprinkled with sea salt for that extra bit of flavour.

9. Pigs in Blankets - 13,000 searches

A meaty treat at number nine, with the popular pigs in blankets receiving 13,000 online searches in the UK last month.

What’s not to like about a chipolata sausage wrapped in crispy bacon? Especially when they’re swimming in gravy.

10. Yorkshire Puddings - 10,000 searches

Yorkshire puddings are another contested item on the Christmas dinner plate, usually depending on whether you live in the North or South of the UK.

However, the yummy Yorkshire pudding has had a surge in popularity recently, thanks in part to the famous Yorkshire pudding wraps sold at Christmas markets up and down the country, and has secured a place in the top 10 most popular festive foods amongst Brits with 10,000 searches.
