New research reveals that Ring of Fire is the most popular drinking game in the UK.

The study by gamerules.com, a games rules website, examined Google search data to discover which drinking games are most popular. The study examined the average monthly search volume for over 35 drinking games across the past twelve months to reveal the nation’s most popular ones.

The research revealed that Ring of Fire takes the crown as the most popular drinking game in the UK. In the game, players draw cards from around the Kings Cup and have to drink according to the card they have drawn. For example, if a Jack is drawn, that player gets to make up a new rule that all players must follow. Ring of Fire receives a monthly average of just over 2,800 searches across the UK.

Missing out on the top spot, 21 ranks as the second most popular drinking game in the UK. Unlike well-known Blackjack, in 21, players take it in turns to count upwards to 21, when a player gets to 21 they take a drink and make up a new rule. As the game progresses it becomes more complicated as new rules get added. Brits are searching for this drinking game an average of 2,000 times per month, putting it in second place.

The study placed ‘Never Have I Ever’ as the third most popular drinking game. This fun game provides an opportunity to get to know each of the players a little better. All players hold up their hands, the youngest player goes first, declaring ‘never have I ever...’ then admitting to the other players something they haven’t done before. If any of the other players have done what the other player hasn’t, they put down a finger and take a drink. It is no surprise that this popular game receives 1,513 average searches per month.

Ranking in fourth place is Fuzzy Duck, this fast-paced tounge-twisting game sees players saying ‘fuzzy duck’ or changing direction to say ‘duck fuzzy’. If a player gets confused and says the wrong word they have to take a drink. Brits are searching for this popular game an average of 729 times per month.

Also making it into the top five is the well-known game of Beer Pong. Once the ten cups are set up in a pyramid shape on either side of a long table, each player takes it in turn to sink a ball in one of the opposing team’s cups, and if they succeed the opposing team must take a drink. The study revealed that there are an average of 626 searches per month for this iconic drinking game.

A spokesperson from gamerules.com commented on the findings:
“With Christmas and New Year around the corner, many will be organising parties and festivities with family and friends.

“This study offers an interesting insight into which of these popular drinking games will be the biggest crowd pleaser. It is great to see a wide variety of games make the list from card-based games such as Ring of Fire to quiz based games such as Never Have I Ever.”
