It boasts some of the best views across the city, arguably one of the most desirable city centre locations, just down the road from Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre and amenities you’d expect from a 5* hotel, but this isn’t a new luxury hotel, it’s the city’s latest purpose-built student accommodation tower.
Created by Fusion Students, the new 633 bed student accommodation building on Merrion Way has opened ready for the 26/27 academic year. It stands at 134 metres (440 feet) and 45 storeys high, making it Yorkshire’s tallest building, as well as the world’s tallest student-only accommodation building.
The accommodation is teeming with stuff to do. So much so, you could have an entire night out without ever having to leave the building. Sundowners on the roof terrace overlooking Leeds, dinner in the stunning private dining room, before retreating to the games room for a game of pool or table football.

With several of Leeds’ universities offering creative courses, this building is a perfect fit for budding musicians, photographers and creatives. There’s a recording studio and photography studio on-site, giving residents more opportunity to perfect their skills.
Lindsay Hamilton, general manager of Fusion Students Leeds said: “I honestly wish I could go back to being a student just so I could live here. It’s such an incredible space, with so much to offer residents.
“You can see how excited they are when they come for a tour, but what’s been really lovely is seeing how much they actually use and benefit from the space once they move in. It’s much more than just somewhere to live, it’s a space that really supports them.”
The building offers two types of accommodation, shared apartments with classic and premium en-suite rooms which start from £195 per week and studio apartments from £275 per week, all have bills and amenities included in the price as well as regular housekeeping.
Lindsay said: “The rooms have been selling quickly and we’re now almost sold out across each room type, which is fantastic to see with the new term just around the corner. It’s a really exciting time for us, we’re proud to be creating somewhere that students genuinely want to call home.”
As well as the headline grabbing amenities, there’s everything a student could ever need with free laundry, superfast WiFi, counselling and wellbeing support and even free bike hire.
There’s a 24/7 community team on-site to help residents settle in and Fusion hosts four events each week designed to empower the community and bring them closer together through shared experience. Each event backs into at least one of four pillars; wellbeing, community, discovery and growth with everything from cookery courses and yoga to movie nights and cultural celebrations.
There’s also free tea and coffee, cereal available and a free-from plastic dried food store with pasta, noodles and rice for residents to help themselves from.
Lindsay said: “Money is a big concern for a lot of students, so it’s great to see how much the building can actually help with those everyday costs. You’ve got coffee, cereal and pasta, yoga and counselling, a gym, study spaces, laundry, and bike rental all included in the offering so students are getting great value from that weekly rent and really don’t ever have to worry about a thing.”
When you walk around the building, it’s clear every space in the building has a purpose and has been designed with students’ everyday lives in mind. Areas to focus on your wellbeing and your studies, areas to focus on friendships and creating memories.
Speaking about the new opening, Laura Kurt, Managing Director for Fusion Students said: “Whilst we’re thrilled to have the accolades of tallest PBSA building and Yorkshire’s tallest building, what we’re really proud about is the incredible building we’ve been able to create for students coming to study in Leeds. This is a very special building, carefully designed to provide everything students need to get the most out of their journey through higher education. From industry leading amenities such as recording and photography studios, to wrap around care and support, to make settling into a new city, making friends and leaving with the best outcomes possible, that’s really what Fusion Students Leeds is all about."
