Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 5th July
Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.
From July 5th
The Mummy: 25th Anniversary (15)
Re-release of Stephen Sommers’ beloved 1999 action adventure blockbuster The Mummy, as the film celebrates its 25th anniversary. An update of the Universal Monsters classic, The Mummy sees evil unleashed, as accursed high priest Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) is awoken during an excavation, leaving the roguish Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser), Egytologist Evelyn (Rachel Weisz), and locals sworn to protect the Earth, to stop him. Every bit as fun, exciting and entertaining today, as it was back then, this well casted, crafted box office hit is at home on the big screen. So re-open the book of the dead and see exactly why The Mummy is so adored by a generation of film fans.
MaXXXine (18)
Director Ti West concludes his X trilogy, after X and prequel Pearl. Following the events of X, and set a few years later, this slasher horror set in 1985 amidst the infamous Los Angeles Night Stalker murder spree, sees Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) pursuing stardom and finally getting her big break, but when a killer stalks her, the past threatens to come to surface and threaten her future. Indebted to classic horror and slasher cinema, wrapped up in a deliciously 80s showbiz retro homage, MaXXXine is a visually absorbing and brutal conclusion to West’s incredible trilogy. Co-starring Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.
Kill (18)
Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s anticipated and acclaimed Hindi action thriller Kill, is set to make monumental impact. In fact it has already been penciled in for an English language remake in the future. Telling the story of army commando Amrit (Lakshya) travelling by train to derail his girlfriend’s forced arranged marriage, but when a ruthless gang of knife wielding thieves boards and terrorises the train, Amrit becomes a one man army and unleashes hell upon them. Critically lauded for its stylish and violent breathtaking action, Kill is a must see for action fans and set to carve out some big business in cinemas!
