Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema In The Next 7 Days
Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week!
From Friday 23rd September
Don’t Worry Darling (15)
A sci-fi tinged psychological thriller that focuses on a 1950s housewife (Florence Pugh) and her husband (Harry Styles), who live in an experimental idealistic new community, when she begins to uncover some disturbing secrets behind this seemingly glamorous life. From director Olivia Wilde, this film is one of the most talked about releases this year and looks to have a
Stepford Wives hint to it!
Avatar (12a) - 3D Re-Release
Ahead of director James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel
Avatar: The Way of Water this December, his 2009 Oscar winning sci-fi epic is being re-released into cinemas for a limited two-week time only. The film tells the story of a former marine Jake (Sam Worthington), who is part of a human mission on the planet of Pandora, and involved in a corporate plot to mine its resources, but when he comes face to face with the natives via an experimental process, he comes to see the value and power of their lives and beliefs and must choose a side in the brewing conflict. This is a chance to see this groundbreaking 3D cinema experience back on the big screen where it belongs. It isn’t the highest grossing film ever for nothing!
From Wednesday 28th September
Smile (15)
A film that could be the most chilling horror film of 2022.
Smile follows Doctor Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) who experiences a traumatic incident with one of her patients and begins experiencing horrifying, escalating events that she struggles to explain. But her past may offer an explanation as to how she survives and escapes these current terrifying events. Nothing unsettles more than a lingering smile, and this film looks to do for grins what
Jaws did for swims!
Other releases (all from Friday 23rd):
Chup (Indian Hindi film industry thriller)
It is in Us All (confrontational and complex drama)
The Ants and the Grasshopper (important and impactful climate change documentary)
