Work is now well under way on one of the most ambitious features of Kynren – The Storied Lands, as construction begins on the vast new Lost Feather Arena, a signature experience set to open in summer 2026.
Shaped like an enormous bird nest, the 3,600 seat arena is already taking form, with the first structural elements now rising across the landscaped site.
Instead of twigs, the nest design uses great interwoven timber logs, giving the structure an organic strength and presence that will be visible across the valley.
Once complete, the arena will include a lake, a sweeping hillside stage and a performance bridge where the story will unfold.
When finished, The Lost Feather will bring together more than three hundred birds, each demonstrating only natural behaviours.
The production will blend theatre, conservation and wonder, telling a powerful story about the relationship between birds and humanity.

Anna Warnecke, CEO of Kynren – The Storied Lands, said the project marks a major moment in the evolution of the attraction.
“The Lost Feather will be unlike anything else in the United Kingdom. It will inspire, entertain and educate in equal measure. Everything we do is grounded in world class animal welfare and a deep respect for the species in our care.”
The show is being created under the direction of two of Britain’s most respected avian specialists.
Jimmy Robinson, Kynren’s Curator of Birds and Conservation, brings decades of experience from the Hawk Conservancy Trust and the National Centre for Birds of Prey.
He is joined by Assistant Curator Andy Hallsworth, whose work at ZSL London Zoo and ZSEA Banham Zoo includes the development of the United Kingdom’s first mixed species free flying bird displays.
The Lost Feather will form part of Phase One of The Storied Lands, which will launch with five live action shows including a medieval horse spectacular, a new Viking production and a Victorian adventure filled with larger-than-life characters.
The Legend of the Wear will retell the Lambton Worm myth with water stunts and dramatic stage effects.
The wider 150-acre site continues to be sensitively developed as a haven for wildlife, building on the success of Kynren: An Epic Tale of England which has already contributed more than £65m to the regional economy since its launch in 2016.
