A 13th-century building on Newcastle’s Quayside is to be refurbished and offered for office use, following planning approval from Newcastle City Council.

The property, 4/6 Trinity Chare, forms part of the Trinity House estate, a historic institution in the city. It is now available to lease through JK Property Consultants, which is marketing the 2,000 sq. ft, three-storey building to companies seeking a distinctive office environment.

Originally constructed as a merchant’s house, the building retains significant period character but will benefit from a full refurbishment to modern office standards. Work will be carried out by Evenii Ltd, with the interior design developed by Byker-based studio Design_North. The fit-out began in mid-May and is expected to take around two months.

Planning and listed building consent was secured by Wylam-based Dene Building Consultancy, with regulatory approval granted by Bluekeep Building Control Ltd and Newcastle City Council.

The building will include LED lighting, heat pumps, kitchen and toilet facilities, and broadband connectivity. It is targeting an Energy Efficiency Certificate rating of B.

Kevan Carrick, co-founder of JK Property Consultants, said: “Bringing such an important and attractive listed building into use is an essential part of protecting the long-term future for Trinity House. A unique historical asset for the city, it is now guaranteed a great future.

“This is the perfect time for interested parties to come forward and express an interest. It offers a great location by Newcastle Quayside, providing the perfect setting for businesses seeking to create a memorable brand presence while promoting sustainable office standards.”

The building is being marketed at £20 per sq. ft, with a minimum lease term of five years. It is expected to be available for occupation in late summer 2025.

Located off Broad Chare, 4/6 Trinity Chare sits within walking distance of key city centre amenities and transport links. Trinity House also offers meeting and function rooms for hire, enhancing the appeal for businesses hosting events in a unique setting.
