Brunshaw Primary Get Creative For National Nest Box Week

For National Nest Box Week 2024, homebuilder Miller Homes have teamed up with Brunshaw Primary School in Burnley, by providing two classes worth of nest boxes for a decorating competition in the name of encouraging creativity and supporting local wildlife.

The competition encouraged the nursery classes at Brunshaw to decorate the nest boxes with bright colours and outdoor materials. Entries were noted as being unique and creative, with every box created by the pupils making a charming new home for local birds in their own gardens.

The judges were impressed by all of the creative and imaginative entries. Ultimately, nursery students Ava-Grace, and Harley clinched the top spot, earning them a 'grow your own garden set' as a prize and a commendable certificate from Miller Homes.

Joanna Cunningham, Assistant Head at Brunshaw Primary school said:
“Thank you Miller Homes for including us in their project for National Nest Box Week, it’s been so fun! The nest boxes perfectly complement the children's current focus on signs of spring and will provide an ideal setup to foster wildlife in their gardens as we welcome the season."

Part of their ongoing pledge to support the local communities and wildlife where they build, the National Nest Box Week competition was organised by Miller Homes, working with Brunshaw Primary, due to its close proximity to The Calders.

Clare Noakes, Sales Director at Miller Homes in the North West commented:
“It’s been lovely to see the inventive spirit of Brunshaw Primary as they take on our nest box competition. We love running these with schools, it's a fantastic way to blend creativity with a hands-on approach to wildlife conservation. We're proud to support initiatives that resonate with our local community.”
