Billy ‘The Kid’ Pickles makes a welcome return to the ring on April 6th live on Fightzone and unbowed by last year’s defeat to Lucas Ballingall that saw the Leeds man lose his unbeaten record.

In a great fight in July 2023 for the English Super Lightweight belt, Pickles gave a brilliant account of himself before coming up just short, losing via TKO in the eighth round to the Portsmouth puncher.

Since then, the 29-year-old has returned to winning ways with a win over Justin Menzie, leaving him sitting pretty with a 14-1 (1) ledger.

Back in action at Sheffield’s Fightzone Arena - on the undercard to Keanen Wainwright’s Commonwealth Silver Lightweight Title defence against unbeaten Essex fighter, Louis Horn – Billy says he is hoping for more title opportunities this year, including a rematch with the only man to beat him.

Reflecting on the fight with Lucas Ballingall - what went wrong on the night?

"I think I just took the fight with not enough notice and had to crash diet to make the weight. I got an opportunity that I couldn’t say no to really.

"I would love to get that fight again at 10 stone, with a full camp. Lucas is a good fighter and I think it would be a brilliant fight it we could get a rematch."

Have you made any changes since your loss to Ballingall?

"Probably just staying more disciplined between fights with weight; and making sure I’m one hundred per cent before taking a fight."

How much are you looking forward to your first fight in 2024 at a new venue (Fightzone Arena) on April 6th?

"I can’t wait; it’s going to be a brilliant night ahead. The show has got some cracking fighters on the card and I’m glad Fightzone have managed to get me on the show."

You've appeared on Fightzone before - what do you think of the platform and what it's doing for boxing?

"Fightzone is a massive platform that’s only getting bigger and better. I’m glad I’ve signed with them and I’m looking forward to every fight they get me."

What are your goals for 2024?

"I’m looking for big nights ahead and some titles!"
