Artists Invited To Apply For Scarborough Commission

Artists living in Yorkshire, the Humber and the North East with an interest in ecology, sustainability and the natural world are being invited to apply for a new commission.

Scarborough Museums and Galleries (SMG), in partnership with Crescent Arts, is inviting artists in the region to submit applications for their 2024 open call – a new commission opportunity to respond to the theme ‘Coastal Ecologies’.

The commission will culminate in an exhibition as part of the Creative Greenhouse programme at Woodend Gallery, Scarborough, from 26 April to 29 June 2024. The deadline for applications is Sunday 18 February. The successful artist(s) will receive a fee of £1500, with additional fees available for materials, travel and accommodation.

Sara Nowell, Connecting Coastal Cultures Project Manager says:
“Coastal Ecologies is a great opportunity for artists or an artist collective to exhibit new or existing work at Woodend Gallery, Scarborough. We’re looking for applicants who have a strong awareness of the theme and who will be able to visually demonstrate the current challenges around changing ecological environments with a specific audience in mind.”


SMG and Crescent Arts share an interest in ecology, sustainability, the natural world, and aim to connect with audiences this changing culture through art. This commission aims to support an artist or artist collective with the opportunity to further explore an existing or develop a new body of work.
