Pink Floyd at Pompeii MCMLXXII - 4K Ultra HD
(Sony Music Vision)
The newly restored version of the band’s iconic 1972 concert film is presented in 4K, upgraded from the original 35mm footage with newly remixed Dolby Atmos, stereo and 5.1 audio. Following its praised return to cinemas in 2025, one of Pink Floyd’s most beloved works now becomes available in an ultimate home-viewing edition, presenting the iconic performance in its most immersive form to date.
The clarity here is stunning, with the October light from southern Italy over the ancient Roman theatre adding a new perspective to the recording. Led by Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, the team’s mission was to preserve the integrity and beauty of the original picture. The film was scanned in 4K using advanced techniques to ensure the finest, sharpest detail. Colours were enhanced, and every frame was meticulously reviewed and repaired by hand, maintaining a natural and vivid appearance with minimal grain adjustments
The performance wasn’t so much a concert, as there was no audience present. For Floyd fans this was a pivotal time before the band hit the big time with
Dark Side of the Moon, with most of the songs performed here making their final live appearances, with the exception of
Echoes. For many the release will be appreciated, those who followed Floyd from their early incarnation seeing as the performance relies on long instrumentals.
Though it might seem that the concert has been released far too many times, this upgraded version really does add a new dimension to the historic event.
