Swashbuckling storytelling and shanties aplenty await this October half-term
This October half-term the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool is offering everything from a pirate school to sea shanty sing-alongs, tricks of the pirate trade to tales from the Georgian quayside. And learn all about weird and wonderful instruments. All events for October half-term are free with a valid museum ticket, and all tickets last for 12 months, so visitors can return for seasonal events throughout the year for free.

Visitors should be sure to make a stop in the Captain’s Cabin as they explore HMS Trincomalee. Hear tales from the high-seas, secrets from the Georgian Quayside, and everything in-between at this swashbuckling storytelling session taking place on the oldest floating warship in Europe.

Join the museum for the chance to learn all the skills to become the best buccaneer. A series of demonstrations, craft activities, cannon firings and even a cutlass class will help young swashbucklers learn the tricks of the pirate trade.

Joined by the Auckland Shanty Singers, this interactive workshop will have visitors tracing the journey of a historical figure, while joining in with uplifting sea shanties. Visitors will get the chance to sing along as a crew of sailors, whether that’s for the crown or as a motley crew of pirates.

Discover the science behind sound with this fun and interactive family science show. Join Science Made Simple to uncover the mysteries of what sound is, how hearing works, and how to turn it into music. Enjoy a showcase of some of the more unusual ways to make sound and music, including one that’s totally hands-free, and another that’s played with a blowtorch.
A ticket to the National Musuem of the Royal Navy Hartlepool gives year-round access to HMS Trincomalee, the recreated Georgian Quay that surrounds it, and all of the exciting exhibitions.
