As November comes to a close, all the sports entertainment in Yorkshire this weekend seems to have packed itself into the month’s last day. In football, other than Sheffield United who played last night, all of our Championship heavyweights play away from home this weekend.

We turn our focus to those teams who are in action within God’s own County - picked out are three sports fixtures that are sure to keep you entertained this weekend.

Saturday 30th November: Barnsley vs Bristol Rovers

Off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Blackpool on Tuesday night, Bristol Rovers make the trip to Barnsley hoping to turn things around, with a welcome distraction from league action. For League One sides, an FA Cup win is always good for confidence and the chance to gain momentum which can carry across and improve league form.

Neither side goes into this fixture on the back of a win but both sets of players will be keen for one as this is a good opportunity for those who are limited on minutes in league fixtures, to prove that they are worthy of starting week in week out.

Round One of the world’s most famous cup competition, saw The Tykes sweep aside League Two highflyers Port Vale 3-1, booking their spot in the next round with ease. The Gas didn’t find it so easy, being held at home for 90 minutes by National League South side Weston-Super-Mare AFC, only progressing through the use of extra time, with a goal each from Connor Taylor and Grant Ward leaving the hosts on the night 3-1 victors.

Darrell Clarke and Matt Taylor’s sides will likely go into this fixture with one eye on the following Tuesday, as both managers will want their squads fully fit for the league.

The result could go either way, but the FA Cup always brings drama, so I wouldn’t count on this one being a dull affair.

Date: Saturday 30th November 2024
Kick Off: 15:00pm
Location: Oakwell Stadium, Grove St, Barnsley, S71 1ET

Saturday 30th November: York City vs Maidenhead United

Until about two weeks ago, York City looked to be running away with the National League, but recent losses against Altrincham and Forest Green seems to have brought The Ministermen back down to earth. Saturday sees them face struggling Maidenhead United, who head to the LNER Community Stadium on the back of a 3-1 win against Braintree Town, and will have their tails high.

Maidenhead United’s win at the weekend was their first in the league since the beginning of October and saw frontman Tristan Abrahams get his name on the scoresheet for the first time since the 24th September. The Magpies will be hoping that the forward has finally found his shooting boots and the side can follow suit and push on to achieve a result when they face York City.

The challenge for Maidenhead though, is that York City are certainly no pushovers. The hosts have gained 41 points in 20 games and sit within touching distance of the tables top spot, so will be keen to put their 3-0 thumping to Altrincham behind them and get back to winning ways this weekend.

York’s goalscoring prowess is something not to be ignored and with 37 goals so far this season, they will be looking to add to that. That same number, however, is one that the visitors will not be keen to increase as Maidenhead have conceded 37 goals up to this point in their league campaign.

The odds favour the Yorkshire outfit, but stranger things have happened, as after all, football is a funny old game. I wouldn’t write the visitors off just yet and recommend watching this fixture.

Date: Saturday 30th November 2024
Kick Off: 15:00pm
Location: LNER Community Stadium, Community Stadium, Kathryn Ave, Huntington, York, YO32 9AF

Saturday 30th November: Leeds Knights vs Telford Tigers

Leeds Knights Ice Hockey team have been in fine form as of late and despite two minor blips against Milton Keynes Lightning (MK Lightning) and Peterborough Phantoms, they are still sitting around the top of the table, only one point off MK Lightning who currently occupy the top spot.

Telford Tigers arrive in Yorkshire placed 8th in the league standings and in much need of a win to help turn their season around and push themselves as far up the table as they can get.

Kieran Brown seems the key threat for Leeds Knights with a great goal-scoring record in recent weeks. He is oozing confidence, as are the rest of the team, with their position in the league standings reflecting this.

This has all the ingredients to be a great game and with the usual evening kick off, could be the perfect way to spend your Saturday night. The Knights will be giving their all on the rink to get a win, making this sure to be an entertaining watch.

Date: Saturday 30th November 2024
Kick Off: 18:30pm
Location: Planet Ice Leeds, Elland Road, Beeston, Leeds, LS11 0EY
