Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 5th April

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 5th April

Monkey Man (18)

Dev Patel stars in and directs this critically acclaimed action thriller, which comes from producer Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us). As one young man embarks on a sole pursuit of vengeance against the corrupt leaders responsible for his mother’s death, and in the process finds himself becoming a saviour of the poor and powerless targeted by these leaders. Stylish, exciting and with sociopolitical punch to match its physical intensity, Monkey Man is a breakout action blast from a fantastic actor and - as proven here - an equally exciting filmmaker.

The First Omen (15)

Director Arkasha Stevenson makes her feature length directorial debut with The First Omen, a resurrection of the iconic horror franchise and prequel to the original 1976 horror classic The Omen. The film sees an American woman sent to work at a Church in Rome, who uncovers a devilish conspiracy to bring about the birth of the antichrist. Starring Nell Tiger Free, Tawfeek Barhom, Sônia Braga, Ralph Ineson and Bill Nighy, this looks to be an artistic, challenging and chilling reinvention of a long dormant name in horror cinema, and a potentially exciting re-emergence.
