Newcastle United Results Suffer 8.2% Dip In December/January Based On Historical Data

The misery is expected to continue for Newcastle United over the festive period, with their Premier League win rate dropping by 8.2% around Christmas.

The festive football period is one of the best times of year for fans, with games coming thick and fast and with plenty of drama, with results going a long way to determining the destiny of each side.

OLBG’s Festive Football research has worked out the performance of each team in the history of the Premier League to reveal which sides perform better in the hectic schedule, who struggles, who scores the most goals and who is shown the most yellow cards.

Newcastle, despite the excitement of the takeover earlier in the season, a new manager and the prospect of exciting new signings, are facing a disastrous relegation to the Championship having struggled to escape the bottom three all season, and face a daunting December with games against Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton and Southampton, and based on historical data they shouldn’t expect much from this period.

In the history of the Premier League, Newcastle have a win rate of 36.79% but during December and January that sees a 8.2% drop to 33.77%.

Whether it is struggles with squad depth, unfortunate fixture scheduling or just bad luck, Newcastle tend to perform worse in the winter months - which is at odds with the overall league average which tends to see teams perform better on the whole.

However while opponents such as Liverpool and Manchester United tend to improve over the break - which sees five matchdays in 19 days - there could be some good news for Magpies fans with Everton, Southampton and Man City also seeing dips in results.

More bad news for fans could be that there will be less entertainment from Eddie Howe’s side, who see an average of 1.34 goals per game drop to 1.28 goals per game during the period.
