Hangover cures for those suffering during warm weather and a heatwave are being offered tips to keep cool and keep the hangover at bay.

The guys behind a great night out at Groubook have collated the best tricks to combat a hangover in the heat.

The evenings are getting warmer, people are getting out with their friends more and evenings full of socialising sometimes means waking up with a sore head too.

Hangovers are a pain to deal with at the best of times, but they can be particularly difficult to deal with in the sweltering heat.

Suffering from splitting headaches, sickness, dizziness, and dehydration after consuming alcohol in warmer temperatures can be tricky.

Cooler cures, including homemade vitamin lollies, ice green tea and fizzy drinks can be used to combat the ill effects of drinking when it is hot.

Founder of Groubook, Bradley Gough said:
“Dealing with a hangover, no matter the weather, should focus on getting lots of fluids and hydration back into your body.

“Hangovers happen because of alcohol in our system. Some of us might not have experienced a heavy night for a while, especially after being in lockdown for so long!

“The dehydration aspect happens because most drinks act as a diuretic, meaning they make needing the loo more often! As a result, it is common to become dehydrated during and after drinking.”

1. Iced green tea

Those that can stomach the taste of health so early in the morning, should opt to drink the amazing detoxifier, as it will give you plenty of hydration. Green tea also has a touch of caffeine in it to perk even the most hungover person up. For those planning ahead, brew a big jug of tea in the fridge overnight, so it is ready to refresh the second your splitting headache starts.

2. Isotonic energy drinks
Any sports drink with electrolytes and minerals will do, but the best results will be achieved on a hot day by adding plenty of ice cubes to your glass. Used to help athletes quickly replace fluids lost through sweating, it will work in a similar way to replace liquids lost when sweating. They also supply a boost of carbohydrates to combat flagging energy levels.

3. Fruit and vitamin ice lollies
Get into the kitchen ahead of the night out and fix yourself a tasty vitamin-packed treat. Ahead of the next hot morning hangover you might face, grab some old school ice lolly moulds. Mix fruit juice or dissolvable vitamin tablets and freeze the liquid ready for a cold treat when it hits the next warm morning.

4. Coconut water
Coconut water can stock your body back up electrolytes, which is particularly helpful after an evening of drinking has depleted them. Serve straight from the fridge and add a big cube of ice for extra refreshment.

5. Frozen smoothies
Lots of smoothies are available in pouches, which are perfect for freezing and enjoying on warm mornings after a drinking session. Pop the smoothies in the freezer, let them chill overnight and cut along the top line in the morning, for a refreshing treat packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

6. Wheatgrass juice
This green juice looks a bit gross but please hear us out… if you are struggling with a heatwave hangover. The drink is rich in iron and chlorophyll, helping the body detoxify and cleanse the liver. It is perfect for the groggiest of mornings, for a quick health boost to restore your body back to a fit state.

7. Lemons
In Puerto Rico, rubbing a slice of lemon or lime in the armpit of a hanging person’s drinking arm is a folk tale age-old cure. It is because our body's pH levels change when we drink alcohol. Instead of rubbing, drink lemon juice, lemon water or citrus tea to reduce dehydration!

8. Cooling eye masks
Bright lights and puffy eyes on hot days can make us feel ten times worse, especially when hungover. Keep some cucumber slices or plastic, gel-filled eye masks in the fridge, so that they are on hand to take any swelling down.

9. Plenty of water
Next to those cooling eye masks should be a jug of the most well-known hangover cure on the list. Water is a time-old, but extremely effective way to curb the side effects of a hangover and get your body back in shape after a bevvy-filled battering.
