Greencore Group plc, a UK manufacturer of convenience foods, is delighted to welcome a cohort of 31 new engineering apprentices to help support future manufacturing performance and increase the level of technological innovation across its industry-leading network.

The new apprentices came together for the first time at the beginning of September as part of a four-day induction process, where they met each other and leaders from across the Group. During the induction, apprentices had the opportunity to learn about working in a leading food business, sample Greencore’s products and find out more about the apprenticeship programme itself.

Following the induction, the apprentices have now started their first three-week block at either Selby College or Midland Group Training Services (MGTS) in Coventry, where they will work towards ultimately attaining their Level 4 HNC Engineering Certification. The course will last for four years and, as part of the certification’s practical training, the apprentices will spend 18 weeks each year working at one of Greencore’s world-class manufacturing sites.

Upon the successful completion of the course, the newly qualified engineers will then continue in their engineering roles across the Group’s network.

Greencore will open its application window for its 2022 intake of apprentices and graduates in November. Any potential applicants should visit www.greencore.com or Greencore’s social media channels to keep up to date with the Group’s latest apprenticeship opportunities.

Nova Jackson, Early Careers Manager at Greencore, commented:“I am absolutely delighted that so many people have chosen to build their engineering career with Greencore, and I have no doubt that they will find it to be a rich and fulfilling experience. Following an online recruitment process where, due to COVID-19 restrictions, interviews and assessment centres were run virtually, we were pleased to be able to finally bring the apprentices together in-person for their induction to Greencore.”
Carl Schubert, Greencore Manufacturing Excellence & Engineering Director at Greencore, said:

“We are immensely proud to be able to offer opportunities and exciting career prospects to so many young people. At Greencore, we have industry-leading technology and supply chain capabilities, and our new engineers will be absolutely critical to advancing this operational expertise.”

Phil Sayles, Principal & Chief Executive of Selby College said: “This is the first year that Greencore has decided to run a large-scale apprenticeship programme across its UK sites, so we’re thrilled that they have chosen Selby College to be one of its official training partners. Our state-of-the-art engineering facilities and ties with the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology, mean that we are perfectly positioned to deliver a highly-skilled apprenticeship programme for Greencore’s new and existing employees, ensuring they have the training and knowledge they require for a successful career in the food and drink industry. Apprenticeship programmes such as this will also be crucial in helping to recover the UK’s economy following the pandemic, ensuring that future skills demands are met.”
