Cruise Lines Race To Pick Up Portugal Passengers

Scenic and Emerald Cruises have begun the race to pick up passengers for their July sailings on the Douro River in Portugal following the Foreign Office announcement that it has removed advice against travel to most parts of the country.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours (www.scenic.co.uk) is set to become the first river cruise line to resume sailing the renowned river this summer, with the all-inclusive luxury small-ship line confirming it will resume Portugal sailings from 30 July 2021.

Resuming its originally published schedule, Scenic will operate both eight and 11-day round-trip sailings from Porto on board its fleet of spacious, boutique ships. Scenic’s eight-day Delightful Douro river cruise takes in Regua, Vega de Terron, Pocinho and Pinhão, with prices starting from £2,545 per person.

Meanwhile, Emerald Cruises (www.emeraldcruises.co.uk) has also confirmed that its river cruise programme on Portugal’s Douro River will resume from 31 July 2021.
The line will resume its original Douro schedule, sailing eight-day round-trips from Porto with its Secrets of the Douro itinerary.

The eight-day river cruise showcases the best arts and culture of the region, with highlights including a Port Wine cocktail making lesson, mosaic tile painting with locals and dinner and entertainment at the Quinta da Pacheca wine estate. Prices start from £1,945 per person (based on 2 October 2021 departure).
