Chatting With Belle

Having grown up in a family stuffed full of hit singles and fun, Belle is a confident performer, writer and singer busily marking out her own very individual creative vision. Belle grew up singing along to Avril Lavigne and performing whenever and wherever she got the chance to do so. Her music draws inspiration from her own experiences and how she overcame some difficult times on her journey. Her songs are powerful, uplifting, with an underlying message of kindness, hope and strength through adversity. With a sensational new single, Burn, now out in the world, we caught up with her to learn a little more.

Hi Belle, how are you?

Hiya! I’m grateful, enjoying the sun while it’s here haha.

2024 has been a good year for your new music. What has been your personal highlight?

Ahh honestly, I’ve had so many opportunities that I’ve been grateful for this year. Honestly, my personal highlight is just being able to do what I love to do with an amazing support network around me. It really does make a difference. There've been a few personal challenges too this year but in hindsight I’ve been able to write some great songs (I hope) about it!

Your latest is Burn, tell us more about it...

Burn came from talking to a close of friend of mine and she was just having a moment worrying about what she was going to do with her life, so she turned to me and said “I wish I had the same drive and passion as you it's like you’re on fire” and burn just appeared in my head immediately after she said that for some reason. It was like the song wrote itself, I guess Burn is my way of saying believe in yourself, give yourself permission to be excited about your life, never let someone else’s ugly destroy your happiness.

You know we only have one life so why not give it everything you’ve got. Let yourself burn with passion and light the world up with your flame.

What are your ambitions for the single?

Since it’s summer, I really hope people can just dance and sing to this track as it’s definitely one of my more uptempo songs. As always though my main goal is to be able to get through to people with my words and meanings behind my music, I really hope with this song it can help ignite passion and that burn (no pun intended aha) you really need to have to be able to commit to something you want to accomplish or pursue.

And for the remainder of 2024?

I’ve been lucky enough to have had some incredible opportunities this year, and so many more to come which is quite humbling honestly. I’m super excited to be back on CBBC Saturday Mash Up performing burn, this show means so much to me and I find it quite mind boggling that this will be my third time on it! I’m also performing at Reading Pride this August which will be so ace. I’m also putting more time into my social media platforms and modelling side which is another thing I’m very passionate about. I’m just so eager to get myself and my message out in the world and won’t let anything stop me haha.

Your Mum is Lolly, who of course enjoyed a string of hits herself. What is the best piece of advice she has given you?

My mum is quite possibly my biggest supporter, but she is also so real and will tell me when things could be far better, which I’m so glad I have that truthfulness especially in this industry. I think something that has stuck with me over the years and especially recently is that it’s better to be alone than surrounding yourself with lots of people that might not have your best interests at heart. It’s such a simple concept but I think the cliche “quality over quantity” is so important and true and it’s better to stay authentic and wait till the right kind of people walk into your life.

You have enjoyed some festival and Pride performances this summer. For those who haven't seen you, what is the live experience?

I absolutely love performing live, it’s such a cool experience seeing how people react to my music in real time. I typically sing all of my songs in order from release date which is kinda cool as you can see the growth and change happening through each song. It’s also so fun when I sing new music and somehow the audience can sing along with it already, that definitely is a pinch me moment. You can expect lots of jumping up and down and the occasional bucket hat gets thrown on stage - which you can see in my latest music video !

Can we expect a tour any time soon?

We haven’t got any specific dates down but I’ve got so much music that I would love to share with the world so you never know, tour number 3 might be coming sometime soon!

Do you have any album ambitions?

We’re actually one song off of an album so yes, I would definitely love to release one. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so won’t be releasing anything until me and my team are 100% happy and certain we like it but it’s definitely in the works.

To date your releases have you been solo releases, but if you could duet with one person, who would you choose?

Off the top of my head, it’s always going to be Avril Lavigne as she was the singer I grew up with and definitely moulded my music taste and the way I write my own songs today. But I’d also love to maybe have a rapper on one of my songs in the future, I really like Loyle Carner at the moment and feel like he has such meaningful lyrics behind all of his songs so that would definitely be a cool one too.
