10 in 10 – Ellen Limbert

Ellen Limbert is the Head of Customer Experience at Leeds-based industrial lubricant manufacturers ITW ROCOL.

What does a typical working day for you involve?
I’ve been working at ROCOL for nearly three months now and every day has varied hugely so far.

I manage four teams in four different countries, so my day will usually start by catching up with some of them. That is often followed by meetings with the different departments, such as sales or marketing.

The rest of my day is filled with project work, which is all aimed towards providing an even better customer experience for ROCOL users than they already get.

What makes your company special?
Without a doubt, it’s the people. Across all the different sections of the business, everyone is welcoming and dedicated to doing the right thing for customers. Also, they all have the ambition to be great in their role.

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?
They’re not business rules as such, but they are rules that I live by. The first has occasionally got me in trouble, but it is to ask for forgiveness, not permission.

The second is to make sure there is time for everything. Home, work, family and play. It’s all important and we should enjoy it.

Do you dress up or down for work?
I tend to dress for the occasion. If I am interviewing someone, I will dress up. However, if I’m not doing anything customer-facing then I prefer to dress down.

What piece of advice would you give your 18-year old self?
Have faith and go with your gut instinct. Do those things and everything will turn out ok.

What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?
Junkyard Golf in Leeds is always great to bring everyone together and have some fun. Xscape at Castleford is also great as there’s such a huge range of activities that everyone will find something to do that they will enjoy.

How do you prefer to travel for business?
I prefer to use the train as it allows me to do some work and catch up on things or, if possible, relax before or after meetings.

What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?
I’m a huge fan of the seaside and particularly love Filey. It’s a great place to escape to for a walk and it never feels overcrowded. I’d say it’s a real hidden gem.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire, and what dish do you recommend?
I’m gluten intolerant, so eating out can be challenging. However, there is a fantastic place near the Town Hall in Leeds called Oxford Place.

Everything on the menu is 100% gluten-free, including the beer, and it’s delicious. I adore the crispy pork belly, but what is great is that there are gluten-free dishes on the menu that you can’t normally get in other restaurants.

What do you miss most about Yorkshire when you’re away?
The accent and good fish ‘n’ chips. I’m lucky as there are a few chip shops near where I live that do a great gluten-free menu.
